Durable Automotive Companies

The Durable Companies is a privately owned family business now in our fourth generation.

Alexander Geremia was an Italian immigrant who dreamed of something more, and by 1909, he had found the company that would become his family legacy - Durable Auto Radiator Works. Originally located in New Haven, CT, Alexander moved the company to New Haven County where it was located first on West Main, then Litchfield County Avenue and finally, Thomaston Avenue where it still is today.

By 1919, our company was established as a radiator repair shop. But, by the second generation, Michael Geremia, auto body and mechanical services had been added into the mix. With our third generation, David M. Geremia, ushered in a new era by making sure Durable Radiator & Auto Body, Inc. was a “one stop shop” for our customers. By adding insurance direct repairs, a towing department and much more, he made sure that Durable continued towards our number one goal of making our customers happy.

Fast forward to today with our fourth generation, David P. Geremia. He grew up learning the business from the ground up at his Poppy’s knee – starting with repairing radiators, towing and repairing vehicles to name a few. He has over 20 years of experience in the industry as a fabricator, certified mechanic, certified appraiser, and more. He has been able to bring Durable into the forefront by bringing on board AVIS / Budget car rentals and Budget truck rentals as well as adding medium duty truck repairs and fleet maintenance departments here on Thomaston Avenue.

Durable is proud to have a long history of supporting our surrounding communities through such distinguished organizations as the Boy & Girls Clubs, Boy and Girl Scouts, the New Haven County Veterans Memorial Committee, New Haven County P.A.L. and more.
