"On the recommendation of my insurance company StateFarm, I thought I would try Openbay for the first time. First thing I noticed at the closest and best priced location was no AC in the waiting room and it was like a hotbox with the door closed. The oil change and 95K inspection took 1.25 hours. I asked what all was included with the 95K inspection before service began and I was told that he would check and get back to me. He asked a few moments later, and so I told him about the emergency brake malfunction causing the alert sound and when it occurred. I believed that his inquiry and my response to it would lead to a diagnosis at the very least on how to correct it. I sat in the waiting area for the entire time waiting for the info on the inspection details. At the end of the time, he slid the paper across the counter and said, “Okay, you’re all done.” I asked what they thought was the issue with the parking brake malfunction and I was told, ‘We didn’t look at that.” I was in a hurry at lunchtime so I saw it said 95,000 mile inspection performed on my receipt and I figured I would read the details later. When I finally sat down to review, there were no details at all! I sent a message asking what, if anything, was found after the inspection. I was told: “50% on all the brakes and tires look good with a sound that seemed to be coming from the suspension”. (Was the inspection really performed? I have no way of knowing and do not feel very confident given the lengths I had to go to get a response.) Now I have a vibration and tire noise coming from the front end after the tire rotation that I never had before. I will NOT be taking my car back there ever again. I’m going to go back to my VW dealership or try another garage. I think I might try NTB, (which was not on the list Openbay provided), but NTB quoted a much cheaper price over the phone than the $118 I ‘ended up’ pre-paying for an all-synthetic oil change, and ‘possibly’ a 95K inspection.) The “convenience” of prepaying is not worth the hassle that followed. Get it right the first time by addressing potential issues as they are presented to you as the decision maker and pay for service at the end once you are satisfied that the service you wanted has actually been performed to your level and standards of approval."
