"It is hard for me to understand why they call themselves a transmission shop, when they had so much trouble repairing my transmission. It took about two months and at least 6 times of me dropping it off for a whole day for them to give me a working transmission. I guess this is what they call a 'rebuild' when they only fix the one "bad" component of the system and put it back together, but it took an enormous amount of time for them to accurately pick the one piece that needed replacing. Finally, I get back on the road with an entirely rebuilt transmission (or so I was told) and 2 days later it starts acting up again. I bring it in to him to check the check engine light, and he says it's just a small problem with the fuel exhaust, a minor thing, and it might not even be broken, how about we clear out the light and see if it comes back? Well, I don't understand why he didn't think based on my description of what I was experiencing, and wonder if I was low on transmission fluid or if it was dirty, he's supposed to be an expert, and it would have been a simple thing for him to pull out the stick and check on it (I didn't know about it at the time). A week later everything goes wrong. What used to be just a stuttering reluctance to change gears became absolute, and I could not go into reverse. I freaked out. I got towed out of my parking space and brought it back to him. He took a day to look at it (I got a ride home) and told me that he thought it might have "melded into the foward position because it got overheated, possibly from too little oil or dirty oil". I could still drive the car forward, so I brought it to someone else to refill my transmission fluid, and they told me it had been very low. I am now quite sure that I had a leak in the system and that I had let it get so low that I destroyed my transmission. I feel that he should have told me this was a possibility from the first time I brought my car in and not just expected the check engine light to be the best diagnosis. My fuel exhaust would not have made it feel the way it did when I drove it, as another mechanic told me. I am not a car expert, but my dad heard me talking about the symptoms and immediately suggested getting more transmission fluid, which is what i did and has made the car drive as normal again, except I'm pretty sure my reverse is screwed permanently, because I didn't know I had low transmission fluid until it was too late. And I don't know how long it was leaking, but I feel like it wouldn't have leaked had he done a good job of fixing it in the first place. As mad as I am at the problems this whole ordeal has accrued, I recognize that Jim has done a lot of diagnosis for me for free, just checking on things and giving me what seems like his best. But I'm afraid, his best does not seem to be enough."
"David (the mechanic) is very honest and very reasonable with price. He knows everything about cars. I HIGHLY recommend him if you need anything done to your car."
