"Mistakes were made. The following edits were made after the reply from the owner. I appreciate the effort to reach out personally on google. Mistakes were made. I took my car to C&J to attempt to resolve my truck's recent loss in power after a trip. The first repair was expensive (variable valve timing solenoids and plugs) and took a few days to diagnose and resolve. The supervisor did explain they spent a lot of time diagnosing the problem, including work over the weekend. I appreciated the apparent time and care they took to diagnose the problem. When I took delivery I found a new issue involving a ticking/slight knocking sound from the passenger side. Power was better, but not normal. I returned to C and J to have it examined. The techs were nice enough to come out, no appointment to run the codes when I pulled in. No codes (for a mechanical issue), so no problem was found. The knock was intermittent and failed to present itself in the parking lot. I drove the truck off the lot. Power remained inconsistent at best. I went in for an oil change while I did research on possible causes for the tick (new) and continued issues with power, which I brought up with front room staff. No ideas, but they said I could bring it back if needed and if the slight knock returned. After a week or so of having the truck sit in my garage, I decided to take it back. A few test drives showed that the problem (no power, ticking) was getting worse, not better. I called to make an appointment with C and J. In the call I indicated that the issue with the power still existed and the car was dangerous to drive. They said to bring it in. The morning of the appointment, the car started right up, drove about 1.5 miles and died on the way to the shop (just shut off) and coasted to a stop. I made one attempt to restart the car. It cranked but would not start. No unusual noise other than a failure to start back up. I had it towed to the shop. The next day, I get a call saying that they tried to start it to get some codes. Somewhere in their attempts to get it to start, the starter dies. On the call I am told that I would need to put a new starter in so they can run diagnostics. I made a mistake. I should have taken the car somewhere else for a second opinion. There was an obvious mechanical problem and they wanted to crank it more. During all this time the car never failed to start. It just did not have any power, and a ticking that came and went. I am not sure why I gave the go ahead to put a starter in, but I did. This was a mistake. I get a call back, they say they got it to start, but the engine sounds like it is tearing itself apart. They did run codes though. Slipped timing chain and an engine that sounds like it tearing itself apart on the passenger side. Like I said, mistakes were made. I do have a new starter though."
