"I had my 2008 Legacy serviced by an official Subaru dealership a about month ago and this turned out to be a huge mistake. One month after the routine maintenance, while I was driving back from work, I detected the overwhelming odor of something burning. It smelled synthetic, like burning plastic or wiring. I thought this was something outside at first, but as I drove down the road the smell only became stronger. When a thin layer of white smoke started coming from my hood I began to panic. I pulled over immediately and tried to locate a good mechanic in the area. I saw that Belmont Watertown Transmission came highly reviewed here. I called and got through to somebody right away. I was told they were closed, but there was a lot out back where I could leave my car and it would be worked on in the morning. Three hours and a $125 tow later, I’d done just that. The next day they called and let me know what had happened. The Subaru dealership had tightened a part of my oil tank to the point of absurdity and it was leaking fluid into the engine before burning rapidly up. Had this not been caught sooner, irreparable damage could have been to my engine. They said they’d give me a new oil change and fix the part. It would be ready for me the next morning, or even that night if I could get out of work early enough. The cost for this quick, efficient, and painless process? $58. Less than half the price of the tow I used to get it there. In fact, less than half the price of the terrible work Subaru did on one of its own vehicles for a customer of theirs. This place is highly reviewed for a reason and I would strongly advise you get serviced here."
