"I went there for inspection sticker and everything was great! Very fast service and they talked to me very nice. I was there for 10 mins top!"
"I've never had any work done at Alan's but I've gotten inspection stickers there many times. I always get right in and out very quickly. No hassles or games and he's never tried to sell me anything extra or talk me into a repair I didn't need."
"I came and had a good experience with Alan doing an inspection. He went through my car thoroughly and promptly, interrupting what he was doing to accommodate. It was less than ten minutes after I walked in the door that the sticker was on my car. This place seemed to me like an honest family run business with very nice employees who were all in good spirits and didn't mind smiling and saying hello. I did not have anyone try to tell me that my car needed things it didn't like some of the other reviews (and it's a ten year old vehicle). "
"This review isn't a critique of Alan's work - he's as good a mechanic as you'll find north of Boston. I am just not a fan of the tactics he employs. So I had an inspection done elsewhere and failed due to an exhaust leak. Having had work done with Alan previously, I decided to take my car back here as I know he would get it done quickly and for a fair price. I explicitly told Alan I didn't need an inspection, as I would be taking my car back to the first station for a re-test free of charge... Well, wouldn't you know, that after six hours of service to my car to fix the exhaust leak, Alan also mentions that he ran the inspection test too and it will be another $35 on the bill. I tell Alan I didn't want the inspection, that you're forcing me to drop another fee for the test when I could have just taken it back to the original station. He gives me some crap about how "the money all goes to the state anyway" (pathetic excuse because it still screws me twice) and how he saved me "at least another half hour of service and hundreds of dollars" if I went to a dealership. I go into the shop to pickup the car and haggle some more about the inspection fee and he's not having it. I throw him my credit card pissed off and annoyed... Well friends, if you ever find yourself in this same situation elsewhere, the RMV has an Inspections Complaint Department that will send an inspector out to investigate on your behalf. I wrote a formal complaint seeking the $35 back because Alan authorized an inspection without my approval. They sent a man by the name of Bob (great guy) who checked the car because he believed Alan may have tried to run the test and "pass my car" with bad work done (didn't even think of that scenario). Needless to say, Alan was not happy having to cut a check out to me with an inspector looking down at him. He gave the inspector the terrible reasoning that he thought he run my car for the initial inspection and that's why he ran it again - Hey Alan, if I paid you for the first inspection, why should you be charging me a second time? Next time Alan, be honest and forthright and you won't have to answer the powers above. I will be going elsewhere from now on for all inspections and car work. Sorry but you lost this customer"
"I have been going here for several years for my inspection on all my vehicles. Bottom line: if the younger guy is there he will give you a proper inspection in a timely manner and he is a pleasant person. If the old guy (owner) is there, there is a good chance he will fail you for something petty. I saw him fail three people in a row including me. Each one he aggressively tried to convince to come back to get the work done at his shop. He told me a hole in my exhaust pipe (which did need to get fixed but was not a big deal) was a "major problem" and that it was a "serious safety concern" and there was no way he could give me even an approximate estimate until it was "up on the lift". I am not as concerned about his high failure rate as his high pressure sales tactics afterwards. I fixed it myself and got it re-inspected when the kid was in. I still go when the young guy is working because I want him to have a job, but feel bad because I know that criminal of a boss still gets some of the money."
"Not so keen on going places without yelp reviews to guide me, but I was in a bind and due for a state inspection - Open Saturdays for state inspections..."
