EXCEPTIONS: vehicles with manual transmissions, vehicles over one ton, RV's, police/fire/emergency vehicles, vehicles used as/for rentals, taxis, limousine, snow plowing, commercial towing or "high rail" applications (modified for use on RR tracks). "Great company, Great work, definitely my top choice for transmissions. Something else came up after my transmission was fixed and the owner came to my place (we live in the same town) scanned my truck, drove it around and said he'd drive it to work in the morning and fix it and bring it back after work that day. No other company would do that, don't go anywhere else. GO HERE."
"I would give 0 stars if I could. My dad had his transmission rebuilt here in 2013 and bought the "Heavy Duty" torque converter. After installing the transmission the truck would die as soon as it was put in reverse. We went through the truck and fixed all the small things that we could think of that could cause this problem. We finally took the Truck back to AAMCO, they pulled the transmission and the new torque converter was bad. We thought they did us a solid by replacing the converter free of charge... fast forward to 2015-2016 the truck would randomly lose its ability to pull its self. now its 2017 and about 20k miles after the transmission rebuild we decide to drop the pan. The photos are what we find, its full of metal shavings and the two nuts that hold the valve body in place are floating around in the pan with chunks of metal. The valve body studs are stripped out forcing us to purchase a new transmission. If you need work done.... don't use this company We have contacted the corporate office but will likely get nothing done. Addendum: After complete removal of the transmission this weekend, there were several things wrong with their "rebuild" 1. The torque converter nuts were stripped 2. The Valve body nuts were off the studs-See photo next to magnet covered in metal shavings 3. The valve body studs were stripped from the transmission casing 4. Instead of using the proper gasket, they used silicon to seal transmission housing to the transfer case adapter housing. Not a big deal but the proper gasket was $14 from Ford. 5. There were plenty of metal shavings in the pan. You can see the photos I uploaded for further details The truck now has 24,564 miles on it since the initial rebuild in 2013, some of these are on the new transmission. The owner has replied to this review, saying they want to communicate with us about the issue, after two emails his response From us to Kurt "owner" Hello Kurt, this is in reponse to your request to discuss the problem with my transmission that your company rebuilt. This is the second time I have sent you a e-mail responding back per your request. I had already called you about the nuts coming off of the valve body and after I talked to you I found a host of other problems. So if you want to discuss this send me a email. James Randy Wells Kurts reply: "In response to your email, the transmission was built 4 years ago with 221287 miles with a 1 year warranty on Trans only no labor included. I don't know what is wrong with it or how many miles is on the truck since rebuild. Not sure what you expect or want from me." From US I'm not looking for anything from you. You asked me to contact you in reference to my review of your shop's work. I don't care how many miles is on the transmission or how long ago it was built, the issue I brought up is the fact the locking nuts (that you see in the picture) came off the valve body. If installed properly, with the proper torque, those would not come off no matter the amount of time which has passed. I have worked on automotive parts or repairs nearly my whole life, so when I went to snug them down by hand prior to using a torque wrench, the stud was stripped out. Once again if installed properly that should never happen, but the likely cause is using an impact and not a torque wrench. I went to another transmission shop and they said due to the stripped studs they would not work on the transmission as it would only be a short term fix. Once again this was done in your shop. I do not use my truck as a work truck. and rarely tow anything, so this quality of work is dismissable. Also, two the nuts on the torque converter were stripped causing the torque converter to be moving and the paint to be worn off, which should not happen. Again, you asked me to contact you in reference to my review with your shop. These are the problems I was concerned about leading to my review It seems the response to this review was just to save face. I would gladly post Photos of this email exchange but google will not allow it for some reason"
"Went to another shop and was told I needed a whole new transmission. Went for a second opinion here and after checking it out and scanning it and taking it for a test drive he figured out it was just a small sensor throwing a code. He even had me back on the road in less than 30 minutes!!! Honest, reliable, and will definitely use him if needed in the future!!!"
"WARNING - I started having some problems with my wife's Jeep Liberty. It had a strange problem when we would drive in warm weather, it would shift to first gear and then the brakes would lock up. I took it to two different mechanics and they both said it was a transmission problem. The strange thing was it would only break down when the weather was above 50 degrees. I took it to AAMCO transmission because I wanted a specialist to work on it and then I'd have a warranty. AAMCO said that it had a code come up when they hooked their computer to it. They said that it was a bad torque converter and they would have to rebuild the transmission. After I agreed for them to fix it for $1,790.58 I got a call a couple days later saying that the problem was fixed and that it was ready. On my drive home from AAMCO the Jeep broke down again with the same problem. I immediately called AAMCO and the manager Curt was NOT apologetic and said they had fixed one problem but maybe there was another. Because the weather was so cold the past couple of months the Jeep didn't have any more problems. This past Monday I was driving the Jeep in warm weather and it broke down. I decided to drive it up to AAMCO today and ask them to fix the problem. On my way I broke down and had to have it towed. When we arrive at AAMCO Curt hooked it up to the computer and took the Jeep for a test drive. He drove a few miles brought it back and said that he didn't have any problems. After insisting that I wasn't making it up he suggested that we both take it for a test drive. After a few miles it locked up went down to first gear and the Jeep would not move. Curt then said to me it's not a transmission problem it is a brake problem. I then asked him if I could get some kind of refund for his work since he did not fix the problem that I came to him with. He said that he fixed the transmission problem but I needed to get the brakes worked on. He never offered to refund me labor cost or anything for his bad repair job. The worst part was he asked the tow truck guy if he knew of a good brake shop. AAMCO is a FULL SERVICE shop and they do breaks!!! It was a bad diagnoses on his part when I first brought it to him. He never told me that rebuilding the transmission MIGHT fix the problem he said it WOULD fix the problem. I never would have given him the go ahead if there was any doubt on his part that the $1,790.58 wouldn't fix it. I came to him with the Jeep not being drivable and after he "fixed" it the Jeep is was still NOT drivable. This happened back in 2013 so hopefully they fired Curt by now. It took me this long to post because I was so upset and crazy busy with work."
"Took my 2005 F-150 Truck in for an overdrive not working $1600. I picked it up and within the warranty time frame because it started hard shifting, transmission actually banged and would jolt the truck. I have never pulled anything with it, just an fyi. Took it back when they could verify the issue, that took several trips as is seemed to not do it when I took it there for them to check. The salesman, the only guy that works the front, drove it with me in the truck and verified the hard shifting issue, hooked up his monitoring computer during drive and stated "that must be an engine issue as it is not showing up on the computer". Piss poor as I have no issue with the engine. Now out of warranty by 3000 miles and needs a rebuild again. I would never recommend AAMCO to anyone and would advise to stay away from this location. If they cannot see it on the computer it is not a transmission issue, very piss poor troubleshooting. Find another shop!!"
